Enjoy The Social Life Of Wangi Shores

Wangi Shores has been designed to be as inclusive as possible with the local community.
You will feel as though you are a part of the social life, with activities and entertainment around the clock.

Wangi Workers Club hosts events of all types every day so there is always something within a minute’s walk of your front door.
You’ll never be short of entertainment as there is a range of local activities that include lawn bowls, raffles, bingo, fitness classes, darts & pool tournaments, and live music. Whether you prefer the social life or enjoy seclusion, the options are there for you all year round.

MONDAYS |  1:30pm | BRIDGE

Come along and enjoy an afternoon game of social bridge. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, all level of players are welcome. During the half-time interval, the residents host a “blind wine tasting” where a resident brings along a mystery bottle of wine with the label hidden. Players who wish to take part are given a taste to challenge their pallet, along with some cheese and crackers.

We have a lovely group of residents that keep their hands very busy churning out lots of craft items for charity organisations. “Kaleidoscope” is one of the major organisations that the craft group support. This organisation provides craft items to children and adults in the hospital along with families and children in need of support. They also sell items at stalls to raise funds for much-needed equipment in hospitals and emergency transport. Our craft group has received a “Certificate of Appreciation” from Kaleidoscope for their valued efforts.

In the afternoon our residents stroll down from the village to the Wangi District Workers Club, where they participate in the Trivia Night as the “Village People”. They do not wear the outfits or burst out in macho song, but they do let out a big cheer when they win! Whether you’re a trivia guru or a novice, you are sure to enjoy the social gathering and have a great night.

On the second last Friday of each month, residents gather at the clubhouse to participate in our games afternoon. They can enjoy a game of Canasta, Rummikub, and Scrabble, or playing other games like backgammon and euchre. During the afternoon players break for a nice cuppa or a glass of wine and some nibbles.

Being a resident at Wangi Shores Retirement Village also means you receive a social membership to both the Workers Club and the Bowling Club. Many of our residents participate in bowling and enjoy our residents’ social “roll-up” on the last Thursday of each month. Whether you play bowls or just like to watch, you can come down and enjoy a cold drink and socialise during the games. There’s always a mouth-watering sausage sizzle to round off the perfect afternoon.

Social Outings

From time to time, Management organises day trips to various locations in and around Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Central Coast, and other areas including Sydney, where our residents enjoy a nice bus trip to the Premiers Concert at Darling Harbour.

For more information on these trips, send us an email through or give us a call at (02) 4975 4844.

Residents held another successful fashion parade in our new Community Centre. The ladies from Wangi Shores “walked the cat walk” to showcase the lovely clothing provided. The day was held as another fundraiser for the HMRI (Hunter Medical Research Institute) Newcastle -Cancer research where a fantastic amount of $1270 was raised to donate to the centre for Ovarian Cancer Research. Another function held was the residents Christmas dinner. This dinner was catered by our local Rathmine’s Butchery, who provided a beautiful spit roast and all the festive trimmings. Another regular event is on Thursday evenings when residents have their regular “Happy Hour” get together, and on occasions this evening is combined with lovely snacks or similar to go with the beverages. Relaxation and enjoyment is abundant at Wangi Shores!
